I’m still in shock about Hellions getting longlisted for the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction (2006). The Carol Shields Prize kindly posted my response on their Instagram: “When I heard that Hellions was longlisted for the Carol Shields Prize, I was hiking in unfamiliar swampy woods with a visiting cousin, which made the moment extra magical, especially since there are so many strange forests in my collection. I fiercely support the prize’s mission to celebrate the work of women and nonbinary writers, and I admire the range of the longlist, which includes books that I already know and love, but also new voices that I can’t wait to explore. I’m thrilled to be included among this amazing group of writers.”
The longlist has been announced by Kirkus, People Magazine, Town and Country Today, Quill & Quire, Shelf Awareness, and other publications.
